In Linda’s studio each glass bead is individually created using the age-old art called Lampworking or Flameworking to make one of a kind jewelry.
In earlier times large stone or brick ovens were used to melt glass and various techniques were used to form glass beads. Today, in our studio, colored glass rods are melted in a specially designed oxygen/propane glass-working torch. The molten glass is then wrapped onto a mandrel that is coated with a mud-like bead release. When the bead base is formed, other colors of molten glass, glass enamel, pixie dust, or precious metal foil are applied. The glass bead is then manipulated, creating unique patterns and shapes. They are then soaked at an annealing temperature in a kiln and allowed to slowly cool. Each piece of handmade jewelry become miniature works of art and is thoughtfully strung onto a sturdy cotton cord or various chains. High quality components of silver, pewter, wood, glass, bone and various types of semi precious stone complement each unique centerpiece. The finished handmade necklace becomes a one of a kind wearable art original. Hand carved antler pendants make some pieces even more special. Adjustable cords are designed to slide to a variety of lengths, allowing a fit perfect for any attire.
